The goal of the Mission Market is to support low-income artisans and farmers all over the world and enable them to increase their share of profits from the sale of fair trade products. At the Mission Market, you can find gifts and groceries to delight anyone – luxurious re-thread throws from India, cold-pressed olive oil from Galilee, whole-bean coffee from Eastern Congo, rich chocolate from South America. The market sells beautiful face masks for adults and children made by Global Mamas in Ghana. Hand-made Christmas ornaments are popular items.
The goods of many U.S. small farmers and producers are also now available -- pecans grown by Black farmers in Georgia, brewers’ crackers, pasta, salami and rolled oats from the Northeast, and dry bean soup from Colorado.
Mission Market purchases are a way to avoid the “middlemen” that depress the pay received by struggling farmers and artisans and to provide fair trade bonuses for their communities. Our primary fair trade partners are Equal Exchange, SERRV, and Ten Thousand Villages. Sales tax is charged on purchases. The small profit made on our sales underwrites the market’s expenses and provides support for mission in Congo.
